Fun Family Movie
A Doggone Hollywood (2017) ** 1/2 (out of 4) Murphy is the biggest dog in Hollywood. He has countless commercials, is on lunch boxes and he appears on the biggest television show. However, he doesn't feel loved so one day he breaks free and finds a good home with a group of kids but soon the Hollywood people are trying to track him down so that they can get their product back. This here is the second film in the DOGGONE series and I must say that it pretty much does everything right. Is this a masterpiece or an Oscar-winner? Not at all but then again it wasn't trying to be either of those thing. A film like this is made to entertain children and hopefully keep their parents entertained as well since us parents know we're often watching these films with our kids. Writer-director Jim Wynorski makes A DOGGONE Hollywood work because he keeps it rather simple. What's so simple about the film? The film tries to be nothing more than a fun movie and that's why it succeeds. THe young child actors are all fun. The adult actors offer up fun support. You've got a story that mixes fun laughs with a fun adventure. And of course, you've got the fun dog who is cute and charming. All of these fun elements keep this movie going at a nice pace and it never gets dull or boring, which is the most important thing. The movie is fast-paced and it has enough charming moments to make it worth watching. Film buffs will get an added kick out of the various movie homages throughout.
